This Android 8.0.0 Oreo firmware must be used only on Samsung Galaxy J6 having model number SM-J600G. Installing this update on any other device or variant might brick your device. So confirm your phone model before going further.
- Charge your phone at least up to 60% before going further. This is essential as lack of battery power can interrupt the process.
- Backup your contacts, apps, messages, call logs, notes etc. as everything gets wiped out in the last step. Use any app from Google Play Store for doing so.
- Install latest Samsung USB drivers on your PC so as to detect your phone when connected via USB cable. You can install them from Samsung Kies CD which you’ve got at the time of purchase or just manually install from link given below.
- Download latest Samsung USB Drivers.
- (Optional) Temporary disable all the security tools as well as antivirus that are installed on your PC.
Procedure to install Android 8.0.0 Oreo firmware on Galaxy J6
- Download Odin3-v3.13.1 for Samsung Galaxy J6.
- Download Android 8.0.0 Oreo firmware for Samsung Galaxy J6.
Step 1: Download and Extract both the files to a convenient location on your PC. After extracting the firmware package (.zip file), you’ll find these files in it:
Step 2: Power off your device and boot it into download mode.
Step 3: For doing that, press and hold the ‘Power button + Volume Up key + Volume down key’simultaneously until you see a warning message. Leave all the keys and just press Volume Up key to enter the downloading mode.
Step 4: Keeping the phone in download mode, connect it to PC using USB cable.
Step 5: Then go to the downloaded folder on your PC and launch the ‘Odin Multi Downloader 3-v3.13.1′ software.
As soon as you launch it, the ID: COM section located at the top left corner will turn light blue. Also an Added message will appear in the message box window. This will confirm that your Samsung Galaxy J6 has been successfully connected to your computer.
Note: If such thing doesn’t happen then it’s more likely to be problem with the Samsung USB drivers. So again install USB drivers from links given in the Pre-Requisites section. If the problem still persists try changing USB cable or the USB port.
Step 6: Now click on the Options tab located on the Odin window and tick the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time options.
Note: Do not tick the Re-partition option as it might brick your phone. Don’t use the PIT tab either.
Step 7: Click on the BL button present on the Odin window and select the firmware package file.
Note: The AP file will take little time to load. So be patient and wait.
Step 11: After doing everything as mentioned above, begin the Android Oreo firmware flashing process. So hit the Start button present on the Odin window.
Note: As the process begins, your phone will automatically restart. Do not disconnect it from PC as it will interrupt the flashing process.
Step 12: Within few minutes the flashing process will finish. When it completes successfully, the ID: COM section will turn green with a message ‘Pass’ on it. This will confirm that the latest official Android 8.0.0 Oreo firmware has been successfully updated on your Samsung Galaxy J6 SM-J600G smartphone. Now you can disconnect your device from computer by safely removing the USB cable.
Note: If this firmware flashing process fails or if Odin gets stuck or in case your phone gets stuck into boot loop, then close the Odin window, again go into download mode and perform the complete procedure as given above.
